Pin Bhaba Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is a trek liked by every trekker. The Pin Bhaba Pass connects the Kinnaur district to the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The trek is graded as moderate to difficult and one needs have some trekking experience and knowledge before the trek. The Pin Bhaba Pass is situated at an elevation of 4850 m giving you a mesmerizing view of the valley. When you reach at the top of Pin Bhaba pass, at one side you will see lush green valley while at the other side you will be amaze to see pink valley. It is the time when you will realize how dramatic the scenery changes. 

The Pin Bhaba Pass Trek starts from Kafnu which is 6 to 7 hours long drive from Shimla. The Kinnaur side of trek is extremely beautiful with coniferous forest, lush green landscape and mesmerizing views of the valley. The route ascends at the left bank of Wangar River after crossing footbridge and its a popular route among shepherds.  The trek ends at Mud Village in Spiti Valley. It is 7 days trek. 

Note: Many trekkers confuse Pin Bhaba Trek with Pin Parvati Trek and wonder which is better. These two treks are equally difficult and equally beautiful. The maximum altitude of Pin Bhaba Pass is 4850 m where maximum ltitude of Pin Parvati Pass is 5340 m above sea level. Trekking in Pin Bhaba is similar to trekking in Kashmir. 


 The Pin Bhaba Pass Trek is situated at an elevation of 4850 m above sea level, so it is always covered with snow. 

The best season for the Pin Bhaba Trek is in the months of Mid June to Mid September. During this segment the weather remains pleasant. The day temperature varies between 13 degree to 18 degree Celsius. However the temperature at night falls between the range of 0 degree to 5 degree Celsius. 

As the temperature is cold you must carry sufficient warm clothes without much affecting your backpack. 

During winters the trek is closed because of extreme conditions.


Pin Bhaba Trek is 8 days of trek (one day added as buffer). However extra 2 days would be required to reach the starting and end point of the trip, which comes to a total of 10 days for the complete Pin Bhaba Pass Trek. These extra 2 days will be required to travel from Delhi (considering Delhi as hub) to Shimla  and Manali to Delhi.  The trek starts from Kafnu in Kinnaur district and ends at Mud Village in Spiti Valley.

Day 1: Shimla To Kafnu | Distance 202 km | Drive Time 7 hours

Take a bus or heir a taxi from Shimla to Kafnu. The route to Shimla to Kafnu is 202 km long and passes through Narkanda and Rampur. Start early in the morning because it will take around 7 hours to reach Kafnu. The route is very exciting and beautiful. Stay in Kafnu and get ready for the action next morning.

Day 2: Kafnu (2400 m or 7900 ft) to Mulling (3250 m or 10700 ft) | Distance 11 km | Trek Time 8 to 9  hours

Kufnu is situated at an elevation of 2400 m or 7900 ft above sea level and Mulling is situated at an elevation of 3250 m or 10700 ft above sea level. The trek starts from Kufnu, so have a heavy breakfast in the morning and be prepared for the tiring day. The trail is of moderate to difficult level. The trek from Kafnu to Mulling is 11 km long which takes around 8 to 9 hours. On this day you are going to gain an elevation of (difference between elevation) 850 m. The trail passes through forest and its beauty will blow your mind. On this day you are going to spend your night in camps.

Day 3: Mulling (3250 m or 10700 ft) to Kara (3550 m or 11700 ft) | Distance 6 km | Trek Time 4 to 5 hours

Kara is situated at an elevation of 3550 m or 11700 ft above sea level. The trek from Mulling to Kara is 6 km long which takes around 4 to 5 hours and graded is difficult. The altitude difference would be 300 m. On this day be prepared action because you are going to make way through water crossings by natural bridges. You might also meet some shepherds who adorn traditional outfits and enjoy their culture. The last one km of the trek is steep and after crossing it you will reach Kara. Once you reach you will be mesmerized with the beautiful and scenic views of the peak of Kinnaur and Spiti border. You will have your lunch at Kara and spend your night in tents near by a lake.

Day 4: Kara (3550 m or 11700 ft) to Pushtirang (4100 m or 13500 ft) | Distance 5 km | Trek Time 4 to 5 hours

Pushtirang is situated at an elevation of 4000 m or 13500 ft above sea level. It will be a moderate day. The trail form Kara to Pushtirang is a continuous ascend of 5 km which takes around 4-5 hours. But at first you will have to cross water stream. It would be the last day of walking along the Bhaba riverYou are going to walk on the combination of stones and loose mud. Once you reach Pushtirang you will have your lunch and stay in camps with an awesome views of  Hansbeshan Peak, Nimish Khango, Tari Khango and Pin Bhaba Pass. 

Day 5: Pushtirang (4,100 m or 13500 ft) -Bhabha Pass (4,920 m 16125 ft) - Baldar (3,900 m or 12800 ft) | Distance 9 km | Trek Time 8 to 9 hours

On day fifth you are going to trek on the mighty Bhaba Pass. Be prepared for a challenging day as you have to ascend on steep slope covered with heavy snow. You will have to put  extra effort and strength to walk on snow. The trail form Pushtirang to Baldar is 9 km long which takes around 8 to 9 hours. When you reach at the top of the Bhaba Pass you will be amaze to see the views of the surrounding, you may also witness the famous Pin Parvati Pass.

Take a short break on the Bhaba peak and after some time start your trek towards the Spiti side. You will be surprise to see the drastic change in the views. Towards the Spiti side the terrain are mixure of grasslands and mountains of various colors.

Day 6: Baldar (3900 m or 12800 ft) to Mud Valley (3750 m or 12500 ft) | Distance 7 km | Trek time 6 to 7 hours

Today is a delightful day because of light trek. You will descend to the Spiti side of the Bhaba Pass. The trail is easy to walk and extremely beautiful. You must carry sufficient water with you. Once you will reach Mudh, from there you will be driven to Kaza. This day you will be staying in hotel.

Day 7 (Optional day): Kaza(3800 m or 12470 ft) to Chandratal Lake(4270 m or 14010) 

Enjoy the drive from Kaza to Chandratal. Stay in tents near the Chandratal Lake. 

Day 8: Chandratal Lake(4270 m or 14010) to Manali (2050 m or 6730 ft)

Drive from Chandratal to Manali. You will cross the famous Pagal Nala, Kunzum Pass and Rohtang Pass. Stay at hotel in Manali.

Shimla is the nearest city. you can reach Shimla by these ways

By Air: Jubbarhatti airport is the nearest airport to Shimla which is located 22 km from the city. The other nearby airports are Chandigarh and Delhi.

By Train: Kalka is the nearest broad gauge railway station to Shimla. You can also enjoy a ride in toy train from Kalka to Shimla. 

By Bus: There are overnight buses from Delhi to Shimla which runs about 370 km. Shimla is also well connected to other cities through buses such as Chandighar, Kalka and Ambala.
